Thanks for sharing this Gajan. The Joel Meyerowitz tip is especially interesting to myself. I find that most of the time when shooting street, I tend to use aperture priority. During daylight, I'll keep my shutter above 200, with my iso as low as possible. Other than that, it's all aperture priority. Like you mention in the post, I try not to let the settings get in the way of the shot. It's all art at the end of the day.

Thanks! After reading this, the first thing I did was search Utah in the Process archive for some inspo. Didn’t disappoint!

Can you elaborate why you use exposure compensation to underexpose on all profiles as a starting point?

Sure. I do this to mitigate the highlights being clipped if the metering isn't accurate. For example, the BRIGHT 6400 is centre-weighted metering--prioritizing the middle area of the frame--and if I happen to point my camera at the "wrong" spot and meter something that's not a good average of light/shadow I might end up with an image that has the highlights blown out and losing information.

I found that underexposing by 1-stop for my style of imagery gives me enough of a buffer where I'm not producing images with the highlights clipped unintentionally. For more controlled environments (studio, night) I'll underexpose by 1/3-stop since I'm primarily using the highlights/light-source to dictate the metering.

Maybe this was too much information but wanted to explain it as best I can. Hope this helps!

That's helpful, thanks! Kind of like a highlight weighted metering.

Thanks for the settings. What camera are you using? I have an X100V and the one thing I dream of is highlight-weighted metering like the GR cameras but Fujifilm doesn’t seem to have it

These are with my Leica M11. I've been requesting highlight-weighted metering from Fujifilm for years. I just don't know if they see it as a priority, which is strange considering how many of their most engaged users would benefit from something like this.
