Photo books are invaluable to the modern photographer. Sure, they can be a source of inspiration but for me, they feel like so much more. The right book at the right time can feel like a compass that arcs your creative journey in a new direction. The tricky thing is that you’ll never know ahead of time which image will move you.
This is why I’ve cobbled together a bit of a process to studying photo books. And look, I know some people may look at these steps and believe it’s way too involved. I know. That’s because I designed it that way. Like I mentioned in the past, the journey is not supposed to be easy. I wanted to create a way of studying that was intentional, repeatable, and really opens the door for learning more than passive page skimming.
