Wonderful portraits! The detail in the skin of the model is so astounding! Love the review. Question: Do you recommend this to someone who already has a Q2M and / or an M11 monochrom - if that someone doesn't really care for video? Keep up the good stuff. Also, can you, say, post a couple of photos comparing the Q2M and Q3M at 50mm resolution, so that the Maestro processor differences can be observed (I am thinking the processor in Q3M is the new one)?

Tbh, I haven't tested this enough to recommend or not recommend this, especially with respect to the Q2M. I gotta spend more time to see where it fits in the story.

Thanks for reading ✌🏾

Gajan, I do love most of your reviews and writing style, but honestly, this sounds more like a Leica press release. I understand that the Q3 Mono isn't that different, and most things worth saying could probably be cut and pasted from an M11 Mono review. Personally, I'd rather wait until you have time with the camera and can write a more in-depth review.

I hear you Mark, and I appreciate the honesty. I put a lot of pride into my reviews because they come from months of real work in different parts of the world and they try to shape all that experience into an opinionated story that explains why a product exists. The First Impressions pieces are different.

They are more Q&A style write-ups meant to inform the audience quickly. That's why they can read a bit like a press release to you, and probably some others. It's tricky to balance because, like I mentioned in the piece, one week is not enough time to form a meaningful review. I need real-world situations with real stakes to say something that holds weight.

That said, when a new Leica lands, a lot of my readers want to know what stood out to me right away. So these pieces highlight the key features, the things that grabbed my attention, and who I think should be excited. And like everything I write, my hope is that each one gets better over time.

Thanks for reading.

I appreciate that. I can look at the dozen good reviewers out there for feature sets, but your niche seems different to me. You talk about how something fits into and improves your photos and storytelling...or doesn't. I hate to see first look reviews dilute the message you send with your other writing. Perhaps have a totally different format for these sorts of reviews? I'm glad you don't see comments like this as horribly critical, but you are the only photographer I support through membership/Patreon simply because your approach is unique.
